Bob Martin Quartet

Bob Martin Hailing from Atlantic City N.J. USA, Bob Martin is a big toned alto saxophonist whose tough, direct style is very much in the East Coast alto tradition that stems from Charlie Parker, and continued with the likes of Sonny Stitt, Jackie McLean, and Phil Woods.

He studied with legendary altoist Gene Quill while attending high school, and after graduating in 1966, he headed to The Berklee College of Music in Boston (1966-1968), studying Alto Saxophone with the renowned teachers Jimmy Mosher and Joe Viola.

He was a member of the Buddy Rich Band from 1970 to 1975 and has also performed with Shirley Scott, Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald, Billy Eckstine, Tony Bennet, Frank Sinatra, Mel Torme, Sammy Davis JR, Natalie Cole, Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight, The Four Tops and The Temptations.

Since 1997, Bob has made London his home, much to the delight of the city's jazz community, whom proudly consider him to be one of their own. His blistering style quickly earned him a reputation as one of the country's most outstanding players, and soon he was working regularly with the likes of Peter King, Steve Fishwick, Alan Barnes and many more of the U.K.'s finest jazz musicians.
