The guys from New York are back! A month after Jermyn/Ploug NYC Quartet played, these fellas are back in another combo around PETE ROBBINS.
This quartet tours Europe extensively, playing a mix of my older and newer pieces. Musically, the focus is less on exploring the details of the harmonic and rhythmic elements of Robbins compositions in a clear and convincing manner. Their first album, "Live in Basel", will be released on Hate Laugh Music on February 14, 2012.
BEST OF 2010: "siLENT Z - live" (Big City)
BEST OF 2008: "Do The Hate Laugh Shimmy" (Blogcritics.org, Capitol Times, Hot House Magazine)
BEST OF 2006: "Waits and Measures" (Furious.com, Jazzhouse.ch)
"[Pete Robbins] leads...an ambitious ensemble that combines...the melodic punch of rock...[with] a cool tone and a thoughtfully off kilter sensibility. ...Mr. Robbins plays with coolness as well as confidence."
(Nate Chinen, New York Times)
"This guy rules. ... He s already amassed a ballpark-sized fan base. ... There s no telling where he ll go. ... Pete s officially moved in, and the downtown scene couldn t be more pumped. ... This alto saxophonist kicks ass atmospherically."
(Dan King, The Village Voice)
"definitely one to watch"
(Selwyn Harris, Jazzwise Magazine, UK)
