Casimir Liberski (1988) is a pianist and composer from Brussels, Belgium. He distinguished himself as leader of his own trio at the age of 13 and gained significant recognition and acclaim in the European and international jazz scene since then.
From the first live appearances, Casimir's music has been described as deeply moving, exhilarating and atypical. He possesses a daring and personnal style topped with an astonishing vituosity as a pianist. Casimiralways drew his creativity and inspiration from all eras of jazz, classical, electronic, and funk, as well as being raised in retro video games, alternative rock, progressive metal, free jazz and many genres of music from around the world.
Casimir has earned various accolades in major jazz festivals and competitions in Belgium and France as a young teenager. He also composed music for films and TV commercials, notably nominated as best Belgian film composer at the Ghent Film Festival in 2005 and the FIFF in Namur.
In 2006, Berklee College of Music welcomed Liberski with a Presidential Scholarship. He was the first European recipient to ever recieve such high promotion which allowed him to come to America to study and to seek guidance from some of the great jazz masters such as Brad Mehldau, Danilo Perez, Craig Taborn, Jason Moran, Greg Osby, Steve Hunt, Vijay Iyer, Sal Mosca, Masabumi Kikuchi, Fred Hersch... But certainly one of the most important levers for Casimir's musical development was from the teachings of Ornette Coleman who bequeathed him the keys to the art of improvisation and "harmolic" freedrom to human expression.
In 2008 Casimir recorded an album of totally improvised pieces with Tyshawn Sorey and Thomas Morgan, then moved to New York in 2010 prior to his graduation and started working in various groups being hired in tours, concerts, and studio recordings from a number reknown artists; some of them are Charnett Moffett, Stanley Jordan, Jeff "Tain" Watts, Denardo Coleman, Jana Herzen, Rodney Holmes, Nasheet Waits, John Hébert, John Davis (Nerve), Matthew Shipp, Mark Shim, Tony Moreno, Evan Marien, Godwin Louis, Peter Evans, Aaron Burnett and many more...
Liberski also worked on bassist Louis de Mieulle’s debut album "Defence Mechanisms" featuring drummer Matt Gartska (Animals As Leaders) and released three more albums under his own label (Dalang!Records): "Atomic Rabbit", "The Caveless Wolf" and "Stars, Plants, and Bugs" starring all original songs.
In 2016 Casimir Liberski was invited to perform at the prestigious Queen Elisabeth's Music Chapel for their first non-classical performance ever presented there along with famous painter Jean-Luc Moerman.
Recently Casimir won 3rd prize at the Montreux Solo Piano Competition.
